Blue Cross Dental Plans

Blue Cross dental plans allows California residents and their families to avail of affordable dental care through its range of comprehensive plans. Health plans are offered by Anthem Blue Cross, a subsidiary of insurance giant Wellpoint, and markets its products under the trade name of Blue Cross of California. Members can avail of Blue Cross’s network of more than 20,000 general and specialty-care dentists in the state. Dental plans can be offered with Blue Cross health plans or bought independently.

Dental Blue PPO Plans are Blue Cross dental plans that will allow members to take advantage of affordable rates for non-covered services as well as for services rendered after you’ve reached your annual maximum.

The Dental Blue Basic Plan has an annual maximum of $500 and covers services such as

  • Fillings
  • Regular cleanings
  • Annual checkups
  • X-Rays
  • Pulpotomies for baby teeth

The Dental Blue Enhanced Plan has an annual maximum of $1,250 and includes additional coverage for services such as:

  • Orthodontic care for children
  • Major procedures such as root canals and crowns

You can avail of care from any of the more than 18,500 dentists in the Dental Blue 100 network.

The Dental Select HMO Plan has no annual maximums and deductibles and offers members lower out-of-pocket costs. The major features of the plan include:

  • Fillings are covered with no co-payments after a six-month waiting period.
  • After a $5 office visit co-payment, there is no charge for checkups, cleanings or X-rays.
  • Coverage for major services such as root canals and crowns are available for fixed co-payment amounts.
  • Orthodontics and other specialized services are offered for fixed co-payments.

Members availing of Dental Select HMO Blue Cross dental plans are required to use dentists who are members of the HMO to avail of the benefits. Currently, there are close to 5,000 dentists who are members of the HMO.
